Quick answer: December is usually quiet after the November rush, but 2026 has a few holiday surprises, including Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World and Rayman Legends Retold, both out on 3 December. Here’s everything coming before the year ends.
Why Does December Matter?
Publishers usually avoid December because shoppers have already spent on the big November games. That leaves room for smaller, family-friendly and Nintendo-heavy releases, which is perfect for gifting and for anyone still exploring Leonida in GTA 6 who wants a lighter game on the side.
Which Games Release in December 2026?
| Date | Game | Platforms |
|---|---|---|
| 3 Dec | Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World | Switch 2, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam: 4 Dec) |
| 3 Dec | Rayman Legends Retold | PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 |
| 4 Dec | Monster Hunter Wilds (Switch 2 version) | Switch 2 |
Spotlight: Dragon Quest Monsters
The monster-collecting spin-off series from Square Enix has a loyal fan base. It’s a good pick for younger players and Pokémon fans looking for something different.
Spotlight: Rayman Legends Retold
Ubisoft’s classic platformer series returns with Rayman Legends Retold, which Ubisoft calls a bold reimagining with new visuals and a retold story. It also includes Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition. Rayman Legends was one of the best co-op platformers of its generation, so a modern version is great news for couch co-op over the holidays.
Game Awards Season
December also brings The Game Awards on 10 December in Los Angeles, where publishers usually reveal new trailers and surprise launches. We’ll cover the biggest announcements live.
Holiday Sales to Watch
- Steam Winter Sale: 17 December 2026 to 4 January 2027.
Gameotics Take
December is the best month for gifts and for discovery. While everyone’s busy with the big November games, quieter December releases often become word-of-mouth favourites. Family-friendly titles also tend to do well over the school holidays in India, so expect plenty of couch co-op this year. Keep an eye on The Game Awards too, as surprise releases have become a tradition.
If you’re buying a game as a gift, check the age rating and whether it needs an online subscription. A little homework avoids an awkward gift-opening moment.
The Final Word
Fewer releases, but some real gems. December is a good month to catch up on your backlog. We’ll keep this calendar updated as dates are confirmed.
